OUR TOP 5 DISNEY+ TV SHOWS AND MOVIES
(in no particular order)
1. STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN
This was one of the main reasons why we signed up for Disney+. We are big fans of the Star Wars franchise, and have been enjoying the story of the Mandalorian. And we must not forget about the adorable Child aka. Baby Yoda! 😍
2. HAMILTON
Greg and I had the pleasure of watching the broadway production of Hamilton when the show toured Las Vegas in 2017, and we are hooked all over again. It’s amazing being able to relive the show but with its original cast, and catch new details every time we watch it.
3. PROP CULTURE
This series encompasses two of our passions- Disney and production! The host and Disney superfan, Dan Lanigan, opens the ultimate time capsule filled with original props and costumes from some of the most beloved Disney movies from the 80’s and 90’s. Our favorite is the Nightmare Before Christmas episode, which features the original Jack Skellington puppet, along with fascinating interviews with the animators about their stop motion process. We totally geek out watching this show!
4. THE IMAGINEERING STORY
We get the feels watching the man himself, Walt Disney, bring his dream of Disneyland into fruition. This series shows the process of choosing Anaheim as the home for Disneyland, imagineering its very first attractions, and obstacles that the park faced on opening day. It is just so awe inspiring to watch the evolution of the Happiest Place on Earth.
5. ONE DAY AT DISNEY SHORTS
I absolutely love these Disney Plus shows because they feature the crazy talent that goes on behind the scenes. This set of shorts lets you spend a day in the life as an animator, maintenance man, performer, and much more, under the Disney corporation. What we enjoy most is learning about the impact Disney has made on each of the cast members’ lives growing up, and how they eventually landed their dream job helping create that magic for others.
DAINA’S PICKS
1. INTO THE UNKNOWN: MAKING DISNEY FROZEN 2
When we watched Frozen 2 in theaters, I found myself in total awe of the movie’s stunning animation and amazing soundtrack. I love how this Disney streaming docuseries takes you behind the scenes with the producers and animators from start to finish. There was so much passion involved in bringing this sequel to life!
2. ONWARD
This was the buddy movie we all needed during the stay-at-home lockdown. This animated adventure between two brothers given a chance to have a visit from their late father is a beautiful example of the sacrifices one may endure for the love of family.
3. ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Alice in Wonderland is one of the most influential movies of my adolescence. I even have a tattoo of the White Rabbit, and it was the theme of my 18th Birthday celebration! I just love how this film totally transports you to a world of nonsense scenarios and peculiar characters. I think we all could benefit from having mad tea parties and celebrating unbirthdays. 🙃
4. MICKEY MOUSE (SHORTS)
This fun series gives Mickey and Minnie a different demeanor, as they find themselves in the most silly situations. Think Spongebob Squarepants, but with the sensational six in short, outrageously animated adventures. Our favorite episodes are “Cable Car Chaos” and “Doggone Biscuits!” Greg and I recreated a Mickey and Minnie look inspired by this series here.
5. MULAN
Not the live-action film, but the 1997 animated classic! I remember playing this movie so many times on VHS, and this one’s definitely on my most-watched list on Disney+. My tribute to one of my favorite Disney princesses can be found here.
GREG’S PICKS
1. A GOOFY MOVIE
There’s only a few things I can remember as a kid. 1, I loved playing with LEGO. 2, I had a mustache in elementary school. And 3, I watched A Goofy Movie on VHS tape religiously. I would literally play, rewind, and repeat that movie for entire weekends straight. So glad I can relive my childhood with the Disney streaming service without burning out my VCR. 😝
2. AVENGERS: ENDGAME
I should more specifically say, the last hour of Avengers: Endgame. Sure it’s basically a massive, fight scene family reunion, but I don’t care. Once that moment happens, I become a moth to a flame and have to drop everything- sit crossed legged right in front of the tv, mouth wide open and eyes watering from not blinking. Absolutely love this movie!
3. IRON MAN
There are a handful of movies that have helped shape who I am today, and this is one of them. Out of all the Avengers, Iron Man is my favorite, and I admire Tony Stark’s character development throughout the series. I’ve always loved robots, visual effects, and facial hair, and this movie has’ em all! What more can I say.
4. WALL-E
This is the perfect film to have on while doing some tedious work like washing the dishes or rotoscoping an edit. There’s not a lot of dialogue to distract you from what you’re doing and its soundtrack helps keep me motivated.
5. PRINCESS AND THE FROG
In my opinion, this movie is a freaking work of art! Not only was it one of the last Disney motion pictures made with traditional 2D animation, but its art style and dynamic character movement is on another level. Plus, the amazing music and story = a teary-eyed Greg by the end of the movie. Every time.
For us, being able to relive a lot of influential moments from our childhood, as well as discover SO much more, is well worth the Disney Plus price! We would love to know some of your Disney+ favorites in the comments below!

Into the unknown was a good doc. This is coming from a 33 dad of two. I binged this doc series on my own. No shame.

I love that! I started watching “Into the Unknown” on my own as well, but realized Greg was just as into it as I was – especially watching the animators work their magic.
Princess and the Frog and A Goofy Movie all day!
