I am SO excited to be partnering with the LEGO Group! Building with LEGO® sets has been an influential part of my life – I used LEGO bricks to demonstrate structure in my college architecture classes, and LEGO play is one of my husband and me’s favorite date night activities. We even incorporated LEGO bricks into our wedding!
This year is so special because the LEGO Group is celebrating 90 years of play! I am absolutely honored to join in on the festivities and share one of MY favorite ways to play – my style! I hope you enjoy my fashion looks inspired by 5 of the iconic builds in the “90 Years of Play” LEGO set available here.
1932 Wooden LEGO® Duck
It all began in 1932, where master carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen used his craftsmanship to create wooden toys- the most memorable being the Wooden LEGO® Duck.
It’s so special to see that the Wooden LEGO Duck was included in this set of mini builds, and reimagined using the LEGO bricks we all know and love! The fun color blocking of blue, yellow, green, and red is the inspiration for my sporty chic outfit, and I think this sweater dress does a fabulous job at reflecting that. Pairing socks with heels always adds an element of playfulness to an outfit. And don’t you think these sunglasses are a fun interpretation of the duck’s eyes?
1981 Fabuland Elephant
My next LEGO® Fashion look is a tribute to the 1981 Fabuland Elephant! The adorable Elton Elephant was part of the first LEGO set to have named characters, all of which had individual stories about their adventures. The Fabuland Elephant set comes with Elton’s signature patio set and the cutest little mug.
I imagine Fabuland to be a whimsical place, so I want my outfit to be equally as expressive. These yellow tights are such a wacky statement piece! To bring in some sophistication, I wore a simple red romper and gray trench coat. The structured collar and big buttons totally remind me of Elton Elephant’s eyes and ears.
2001 Bionicle Tahu
This LEGO® set welcomes the return of the mighty Tahu! Tahu, the leader of Toa Mata, was part of one the first Bionicle sets introduced in 2001. If you remember Bionicle, then I’m sure you remember the innovative connections and movements that brought the characters to life!
You can feel the heat with Tahu’s warm color palette, so this fiery red dress was perfect. Also, with the two studs on the Tahu mini build’s head, I knew I had to do mini hair buns to match. My favorite element of this LEGO outfit would have to be these flame sunglasses – what cooler (or hotter?) way to channel Tahu’s flame sword!
2013 Ninjago Golden Dragon
This outfit has me feeling confident like a Golden Dragon! In 2013, we were introduced to the story of Lloyd, the Golden Ninja, with this exciting LEGO® Ninjago® set. This set featured a showstopping dragon with fold-out wings, and even had a functioning catapult!
My favorite part of this fierce look is the gold hardware details in my skirt, which shines even more with the help of my gold sunglasses and statement shoes. I also love when a tougher material like this faux leather jacket is styled with something dainty, like a skirt, to give it that juxtaposition of pretty and edgy!
2020 LEGO® DOTS Pineapple Pencil Holder
My final LEGO® fashion look is dedicated to the adorable DOTS Pineapple Pencil Holder! Fun, colorful, and highly expressive, this pineapple is sure to put a smile on your face. I love the LEGO DOTS series, as it encourages builders to tap into their creativity and build a functional set that suits their mood.
I paired this awesome yellow puffer jacket and green shorts to mimic an upside-down pineapple silhouette and added more colorful accessories to capture its enthusiastic personality. If I had to choose any of these LEGO inspired outfits that best represent me, it would definitely be this one!
To 90 (and Many More) Years!
I had such a fun time celebrating the LEGO Group’s incredible legacy using one of my favorite ways to PLAY! I’m so grateful for this opportunity, and I cannot wait to see what the future of The LEGO Group has in store for us.
I’d love to know your favorite look, favorite LEGO® build of all time, or a special memory you have with LEGO bricks, in the comments below!
