If anyone grew up in the 90s, you know that it was all about boy bands, iconic sitcom catchphrases, and the birth of “Girl Power.” As someone who still remembers the words to the Spice World album, here are a couple of bounds inspired by my favorite female characters.
If you’re new to the concept of “Disneybounding” or “bounding” in general, here are some examples that’ll help you understand the lifestyle faster than connecting to dial-up internet.

WHAT IS DISNEYBOUNDING?
“Disneybounding,” created by Leslie Kay of disneybound.co, opened a world for Disney fans to commemorate their beloved characters, while under the influence of their own personal style. What I love about Disneybounding is that there is no right or wrong way to do so. Unlike cosplay, where the motive is artfully replicating a certain character, “bounders” can capture the essence of characters as closely or as abstract as they’d like.
My favorite looks are often those with a street style, or decades influence, so when @thedisneybound and Courtney Quinn of @colormemagic released their 90’s themed “Stay home and Disneybound Challenge,” I knew I had to participate.
TOPANGA FROM “BOY MEETS WORLD”
A classic and natural beauty, I always admired Topanga’s kind-spirit and casual cool fashion sense in Boy Meet’s World. This quirky queen had an effortless bohemian-inspired style, and the Episode “Cory’s Alternative Friends,” is my personal favorite.
I channeled her “Donut in the sky” moment with a cream, trumpet-sleeve dress with lace detail, which slightly resembles her all-over floral lace dress. Paired with a statement choker, combat boots, and some serious hair crimping, I felt ready to do some kickass performance art of my own. I even made a little lipstick heart as a nod to Topanga’s poem.

ANGELICA FROM “RUGRATS”
I love how “bounding” has no bounds, in a sense, and that there are now so many cool Non-Disney looks honoring other pop culture icons and references. Although I was able to find similar hues in my closet, and lucked out with a purple skirt I’ve owned and loved for close to 10 years, I had to be a little more creative with my tribute to the Rugrats queen of sass.
I figured Angelica’s blue and green spotted leggings were a wardrobe staple of all her own, so we found a teal printed blouse to wrap around my waist (so 90’s!) for that pop of color. I finished the look with an orange top, snarky set of pigtails, and a Reptar Bar Clutch that has become one of my favorite accessories I own.
The most important thing about bounding is to really make it your own! No pressure to completely replicate your character of choice, rather, let them be your muse and see where that will take you. It could be a fun way to “spice up your quarantine life,” as it has been for me. Have fun!
PAT FROM “SMART HOUSE”
If you weren’t aware of Disney Channel Original Movies (pre-High School Musical), were you even living your best 90’s life? Some of the decade’s beloved titles include Halloweentown, Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, Johnny Tsunami, and P.U.N.K.S, but my favorite had to be the clever, yet mischievous Smart House.
In the movie, the house’s artificial intelligence system creates its own motherly figure after downloading information from American sitcoms from the 50’s. As a fan of retro fashion, I love how Pat was styled in the film.
I had a short, plain white apron instead of her long floral one, so I added red vintage-inspired heels, and went bigger on my hair bow to compensate for the pops of red. Another example of taking a look and putting your own twist on it!

BE YOUR OWN 90’s CHICK
Yes, you! If you grew up in the 90’s like I did, what better way to experience nostalgia than to be your own muse and play dress up with all your favorite trends! There are still so many 90’s icons and looks I cannot wait to revisit. Here’s a look I put together that captures some of my favorite 90’s fashion trends.

I love that I was able to put together this outfit entirely based on things I already had in my closet 🙌 I’ve been noticing a big influence of 90’s style in today’s fashion, and I am here for it!
Helpful hint: if your baggy jeans and turtlenecks are long gone, or you’ve outgrown them, your local thrift stores can be a treasure trove and a sustainable way to give those 90’s digs another life.
I hope this helped you get a grip on putting together outfits and costumes inspired by a few of my favorite 90’s characters! I’d love to hear what your favorite 90’s trends were in the comments down below!
