King Candy Costume from Wreck It Ralph

September 11, 2020 By Daina & Greg Leave a Comment

For my first ever VILLAIN Disneybound, I am channeling the deceivingly sweet King Candy! I had a lot of fun recreating this look inspired by the quirky Wreck It Ralph character. This bound was a group challenge for @eatseemagic on Instagram – be sure to check out the other Sugar Rush Racers below!

“HAVE SOME CANDY!“

For this King Candy Wreck it Ralph costume, I layered a beige dress over a button-up blouse. When paired with a blazer, the dress’s bell sleeves helped resemble King Candy’s doily cuffs. I used a retro-style hair scarf to tie into a big bow and left my collar upright.

ROYAL ACCESSORIES

I lucked out by already owning a red broomstick to use as a base for King Candy’s cane. I simply detached the broom head and wrapped the stick in white ribbon, securing the ends with tape.

I recreated King Candy’s signature crown by cutting out the crown shape from a 12 x 12” sheet of gold craft cardstock. I also cut out a squiggly brown strip from 12 x 12” brown textured cardstock, coincidentally named “fudge.” The crown fit perfectly around my hair bun!

“I’M BAD, AND THAT’S GOOD! I WILL NEVER BE GOOD, AND THAT’S NOT BAD!”

My favorite moment in Wreck it Ralph is when Ralph helps Vanellope Von Schweetz build her Sugar Rush race car, proving that even a big “diaper baby” can turn out to be a caring individual. I have a pretty big sweet tooth, and could totally live in the Sugar Rush video game.

Did you know that the voice of King Candy in Wreck it Ralph is played by Alan Tudyk, who also voices K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the Duke of Weselton in Frozen? I knew his voice sounded familiar!

Even though this Wreck it Ralph character turns out to be the villain in the movie, I have to admit he’s quite an adorable antagonist, and I enjoyed playing King/Queen for the day!
