Tom Nook and Isabelle Animal Crossing Costume

For this year’s family Halloween Costume, we decided to incorporate what has become two important topics of 2020 – Animal Crossing: New Horizons and wearing a mask. Here’s our cute (and rather hilarious) take on the Animal Crossing Tom Nook, Isabelle, and Timmy and Tommy characters from the ever popular Nintendo Switch game.

GREG’S ANIMAL CROSSING TOM NOOK COSPLAY

Greg has been growing his beard for a few years now, so he thought it would be a ridiculously good idea that we try adhering Tom Nook’s facial features to the back of his head as some sort of blank, bald canvas. We totally ran with it after laughing so hard. 😂

Greg crafted his last-minute Animal Crossing Cosplay by cutting out Tom Nook’s face and eyes out of craft felt and cardstock, using a bit of gaffer tape to temporarily stick them to his head. The ears were also made from craft felt, lined with chenille pipe cleaner and connected with a large rubber band.

DAINA’S ANIMAL CROSSING ISABELLE COSPLAY

Isabelle is an adorable yellow Shih Tzu character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so I started with a yellow long sleeve turtleneck as a base, with a pink collared top layered over. Her ear shapes were cut from craft felt which I attached to a mustard beanie using a couple safety pins.

We were able to find the Animal Crossing leaf logos relatively easy via Google search, and cut them out on cardstock using our Cricut Maker for use as our shirt and flag patches. I separated the mouth portion from an image of Isabelle, and used an iron-on transfer sheet to fuse it to my cotton mask. 

ANIMAL CROSSING TIMMY AND TOMMY COSTUME

We were so delighted with how our dogs’ Animal Crossing costume turned out. 😆 We have a couple of sumo wrestler dog costumes from a previous Halloween that we used as base, and found some matching shirts in the Baby Clothes section of Target (sizes 12M and 3T). We did have to cut a line down the back of each shirt so that the dog costume straps can be let through. We also connected Tommy’s flag to the sumo costume hand using a needle and thread.
